In this activity the student learns to count on from a given number to make a requested sum. For example: the student will have to determine what number is missing in the following number sentence by counting on from 3: 3+__=15
The student will count on using counters to add the number that is missing: 3…. 4,5,... 15→ 12 were added to make the 15!
The teacher can give students the pages as is or cut them in half to create cards for the student to work with. Students may also need counters and a recording sheet to record the number sentences they make.
The defined space for each number and the absence of distracting graphics are all purposeful adaptations for learners with special needs.
