Teaching dialogue can be a real challenge. I wanted a way to engage my students in how to read and write dialogue and to see the power characters’ words can have. I wanted them to be able to get practice with punctuating and writing dialogue WITHOUT using boring practice sheets—and with doing “real writing”.


I also really wanted to be able to tie this to critical reading and have my students study the dialogue that real authors use and notice the “mood” created with good dialogue, so I used these cards as a springboard for that as well. My students just loved using them, and I hope yours do as well.

That’s how this resource was born! The resource contains actual photos of the resource in action, suggestions for use, 24 task cards in full color AND black and white as well as blank cards so you and your students can write your own!
