Description

Teaching about fictional narrative has never been easier with this 5-day lesson plan! This standards-based (both CCSS and TEKS) interactive lesson study of the literary element of fictional narrative will have your students learning about, discussing, and applying ideas about how fictional narrative presents itself and is present in stories throughout the course of five days.

There are five engaging classroom-tested lesson plans that detail everything you will need to do, STEP-BY-STEP, to teach your students about fictional narrative. There are also graphic organizers for each day so that your students are able to apply their learning to the novels and stories you are currently using in class.

The five days culminates in a written narrative paragraph, asking the students to take what they learned about fictional narrative and apply it to writing a paragraph, showing evidence from text (so important in these days of state testing and Common Core). There is also a graphic organizer to help scaffold the writing for your students.

Each of these lessons can be further applied to any novel study and will carry throughout the entire year.

Included in this resource:

  • 5 Days of Step-by-Step lesson plans
  • Interactive Notebook Pages
  • Anchor Chart example
  • Mentor text with ways to dissect it for fictional elements
  • Plot diagram
  • Fictional Narrative organizer for any text
  • Printables and answer keys for all with teacher examples
  • Writing frame for fictional narrative

Once the project is completed, you will have a written narrative paragraph with fictional narrative elements embedded fit for display on a bulletin board! The students will be able to showcase their learning with a detailed, in depth fictional narrative story.

This classroom tested project is something I have used in my own classroom across multiple grade levels with great success. The students enjoyed the process of learning about fictional narrative, figuring out how the elements work within a story, dissecting small texts and then using those same ideas to a current classroom novel.

Prep is easy and painless. Everything you need to effectively teach your students about fictional narrative using novels and classroom stories is here! This mini-unit is a great way to hit many different standards across the curriculum AND have a wonderful display of student written work.
