"Now THAT'S a cool sentence!" This engaging assignment is two pages (one front and back). With a teaching grammar through writing approach, it guides students through seven easy steps, each one requiring them to add interesting words and grammatical concepts to one basic beginning sentence. It takes a sentence parts building approach.
This teaching grammar through writing activity will show students that writing intelligent and interesting sentences is not intimidating, and by encouraging them to select a funny topic of their own to write about, it just might persuade them to enjoy both writing and grammar a little more! The example sentences are about a blue-footed booby, but if you think you're students can't quite handle that name, there's also an alternate version with "blue-footed birdy." :)
In order for students to tackle this assignment without frustration, they will need to understand phrases and clauses. For assignments and minilessons regarding those grammatical concepts, please visit my store!
