As a reading teacher, I love to engage my students by making reading fun! The goal of this series of lessons is to teach my students the meaning of 45 idioms, broken down into three different sets of 15 in each set. I do this through the use of two technology tools, www.quizlet.com and https://getkahoot.com.
Procedure: First I introduce one set of idioms on chart paper, which I hang up in the classroom. Next students go to quizlet and practice on their own. Lastly, we play the kahoot which they really love since it’s complete with music and points. Other ideas are included in the product itself.
Quizlets are played by students individually, on their own devices. Students proceed at their own pace to learn the material. Each study set allows the student to learn the material through flashcards (audio also provided), games, and a test. They choose their method of learning.
“Kahoots” are best played in a group setting. You will need a Smart Board to display the questions, and players will each need a device such as a smartphone or computer to answer the questions. Answers appear on the Smart Board, which allows the teacher to review any incorrect answers with the class, so it becomes a perfect teaching moment. My students LOVE kahoots!
What you get in the product:
• a list of the idioms that I’ve chosen
• links to the three different quizlets
• links to the three different kahoots that match up to the quizlets
• other ideas to incorporate in your lesson plan
DISCLAIMER: I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU BUY THIS PRODUCT ONLY IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THESE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMS, SINCE I DID NOT PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE THE PROGRAMS IN THIS PRODUCT.
