A day in any class in any Middle and High School classroom probably includes at some point:
• Apathetic Joey slouched in the back of the class apathetically staring out the window;.
• Sarah led back to the classroom by an assistant principal because she didn’t have a pass. Guess who got her hands slapped? Hint- it wasn’t Sarah.
• The students struggling through a difficult time staying on-task while the teacher is taking attendance and handing out the beginning activity.
• Zelda handing in Lord Byron’s “She Walks in Beauty” as her original creation for a poetry writing assignment: Write a poem about a celebrity. When I showed her Lord Byron’s poem printed in the anthology, she said, “It’s not my fault it wrote the same thing I did.”
Knowing that behavior issues are stymied by firm, fair and clear classroom management, over the years, I have created, revised, tweaked and revised again these twelve forms in an effort to help me organize and manage my classroom. My main objective has been to create a safe and exciting learning environment. In order to accomplish this goal, I knew that I had to thwart disruptive student behavior before it even began, and to ward off encounters of the administrative kind. I offer them to you all who are leading classrooms.
If your school district has forms that they require teachers to use that coincide with their various policies, use them, of course. If they don’t, download this packet, and in a few minutes you will be ready for whatever left hooks the day and year might toss your way.
Stress levels lower and rise not only according to what and how we teach, but also because of student behaviors and administrative policies.
As always, this activity- PDF version- may be downloaded and printed for classroom use. Also, an Easel Activity is ready to be used for Google Classroom. Teachers may choose to add an interactive layer of their own for digital use by clicking on the red "Open in Easel" rectangle on the product's page.
