Product Description
One of the major obstacles to understanding poetry is understanding why lines are broken up the way they are. Using James Longenbach's The Art of The Poetic Line as a theoretical framework this bundle has a two-sided handout that can be folded in half to make a booklet that explains the basics behind why poems are written in lines and how these are used to create meaning in poems. The bundle also includes a two sided worksheet with real examples of poems to help students identify the types of line breaks.

This is not an easy concept, so students will need more practice with poetry through other poems to really understand line breaks, but this guide is a useful introductory tool to giving students a vocabulary for discussing what they notice in different poems.
