This unit was designed to cover the media literacy standards for an intermediate grade classroom. The activities should be used for discussion and follow up after watching each section of the movie to which the activity refers. The 10 activity unit includes:

• A poster defining media literacy
• A non-fiction reading passage and a follow up comprehension activity to help students understand what media is, and the different kinds of messages that it sends
• Analyzing catch phrases
• Describing toys designs and analyzing how the visuals influence our interpretation of characters
• Analyzing product advertising, store displays, commercials, and product packaging
• Analyzing how the words, images, graphics, and sounds in movies influence our understanding of characters
• Analyzing how music and words work together in songs to influence listeners to feel or think in a certain way
• Comparing and contrasting different media such as web based articles versus a personal email
