The presentation begins with definitions of quoting and paraphrasing. The activity gives students practice in paraphrasing familiar material. A verse from a popular song appears on the first slide, followed by a paraphrased version of the same song. This activity may be differentiated three ways. You may:
*give out the paraphrased lyrics and have students try to guess the song title
*give out the original verse and have students come up with their own paraphrase
*give students the both sets and have groups try to match the original version with the paraphrased version The titles of the songs appear on the slide before the original.
