Whether you're just starting sonnets or looking for a fun alternative assignment for Valentine's Day, here's a hysterical new approach to teaching Sonnet 18 - "Shall I compare thee?".
Shall I compare thee to your mother's foot fungus? To your best friend's basement? This MadLibs style approach gives students an opportunity to study the original poem seriously, then, gives you the chance to turn the tables entirely on the students when you report to them that they will NOT be writing serious, love sonnets today, but instead a PARODY of Sonnet 18!
This freebie comes with a lesson plan and student handouts. The student handouts give the students the original poem, a MadLibs guide to rewriting the poem, and a blank handout to rewrite the poem on. This is fully editable and digital, so feel free to assign on Google Classroom or print to do by hand!
