Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to teach personal narrative essays? How about reinforce their learning with a video?
This lesson will do just that. Students will watch the pilot episode of "The Wonder Years" and identify the elements of a personal narrative. Students will be asked how the narrative described the characters, what verb tense is being used, did the show use an effective introduction, and did the episode include a reflection, etc.
I have successfully used this lesson in my classroom. I usually use this lesson the day after I introduce the elements of a personal narrative. During this lesson, students are very engaged and pick up the concepts very well.
Please note: You will need to obtain a copy of the pilot episode of The Wonder Years. You will also want to make sure that you watch the entire episode to determine that it is appropriate for your students.
