PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This unit packet focuses on 9 different strategies that are commonly used with persuasive writing. As students work through the different strategies, they practice using the strategy in an activity.
The picture book "Dear Mrs. LaRue: Letters from Obedience School" by Mark Teague fits well with this unit. The book is about a dog that is dog obedience school that writes letters to his owner in order to persuade her to come and get him. The letters use many of the same strategies and can be used as examples of persuasive writing., The illustrations in the book help students see the difference between fact and what the dog is trying to portray as fact through words.
