*The bundle includes punctuation posters with mentor sentence examples on the posters and a student quick reference guide to punctuation. These extras are ONLY available in the bundle.
If you have ever taught students grammar concepts through drill and kill worksheets and workbooks only to end up frustrated when students didn't transfer what they learned back into their writing, then this is the product for you. I have scoured popular young adult literature to find engaging mentor sentences to demonstrate specific grammar concepts.
This bundle includes seven products designed to teach students about why writers use different types of punctuation.
*Apostrophes to show possession
*Apostrophes to form contractions
Each of the seven products include a five day lesson sequence. The five days are laid out as described below:
Day One: Sentence Stalking (Students look at mentor sentence and write down what they notice about them. This is an inquiry day to get them thinking about this week's grammar concept.)
Day Two: Grammar Rule (The teacher explicitly teaches the grammar rule through the information on the worksheet provided, and then takes students through the gradual release of responsibility to apply their knowledge to mentor sentences.)
Day Three: Practice (Students practice the grammar concept further through a worksheet with more mentor sentences where they have to identify certain elements of each sentence and add the comma where it is supposed to be.)
Day Four: Discover & Create (Students look for a sentence in their independent reading book that reflects the grammar concept and then mimic the given mentor sentence to apply the grammar concept of the week at an even deeper level.)
Day Five: Assessment (Students are assessed based on what they know about this week's grammar concept.)
*Each day also includes a complete answer key and explicit directions for what to say to students as you walk them through the activity for the day.
Download the preview to get a closer look at what the activities for each day look like and include. If you're ready to mix up the way you teach grammar and shift your instruction to a teaching technique that will engage students to internalize and transfer grammar concepts to their writing, then purchase this product.
