Product Description
This is a fourth grade PPT lesson about the use of a rain gauge to predict flooding. The lesson begins with crosscutting concepts and science practices then continues to the lesson phenomenon (saturated soil). Students use a rain gauge and cups of soil to determine how rain gauges can be used to predict floods. Students watch a short video and learn how to make their own rain gauge during the research/explain portion of the lesson. Throughout the lesson students will complete a claim, evidence, reasoning (CER) about the investigation. The lesson ends with review questions about the disciplinary core ideas (DCI), Crosscutting Concepts (CCC), and Science Practices (SP). There are notes on each PPT slide to help guide the students through the lesson.
