Rationale: As educators, we want our students to become curious readers and independent thinkers. Introducing signposts as a reading strategy is an effective way to teach students how find meaningful passages and analyze them in meaningful ways.
Ever since I have begun using signposts in my classroom, I have found that they allow for much more organic discussions. As students move past the signpost identification phase, they begin demonstrating stronger analysis and generate their own text-based inferences, predictions and questions.
In this bundle, students will read signpost passages from J.K Rowling’s high-interest text, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone!
