PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Need a ready to go lesson on these literary elements? This product includes
A 45 slide presentation that teaches simile, metaphor, personification and symbolism. The slides give definitions, examples, and has students practice identifying the different elements.
The handout that follows along with the presentation also provides for student engagement and practice. The handout gives the examples that are in the presentation for student reference, and offers several chances for students to identify the devices as you work through the slides.
The second page of the handout includes a short quiz for students to identify simile, metaphor and personification. Students are also given the chance to write a short riddle using personification. Guiding questions and an example are included.
Teacher answer key and lesson plan suggestions are also included.

I use this with my middle schools students as an introductory lesson to these concepts. Most students catch on quickly, and they love the personification riddle activity! From here, we go on to identify these elements in poetry and literature, as well as in song lyrics that students bring to class. Literary elements are everywhere!
