This is one of those songs that was constantly stuck in my head but I never knew where I knew it from or what it was all about
I was reintroduced to the song through a blog and through some brainstorming with some coworkers and a lot of reading online I came up with this quick lesson
This is a PowerPoint that walks students through learning a new song and a new note. I have included some general notes (to myself) on what to bring up when I am teaching.
I begin with teaching the students the song and going into some of the history behind the song (http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/playparty-indiana/playparty-indiana%20-%200196.htm), add a circle movement activity, and then get them playing simple ostinato accompaniments.
It also includes at the end what I call "DIY Time" when my students put together an instrumental accompaniment using Orff instruments. This allows all of my students to participate in the activity in different ways and then easily rotate for the next class time.
As it seems to go with some of my PowerPoints, the thumbnails that are generated do not turn out the way they actually look. If you do have any trouble with the way the presentation is formatted, please let me know.
