Description
This product contains visually appealing, hands-on materials to help students better understand the different syllable types within words.
The following items are included within this product:
(1) Colorful Reference Posters for each of the following syllable types:
Closed, Open, Magic E, Bossy R, Vowel Teams, Diphthongs, Consonant-le
Each poster includes visually-supportive image, brief explanation, and multiple examples for the indicated syllable type.
(2) Differentiated Syllable Type Sorting Activity: The product contains two versions of the sorting activity: One version features diphthongs as a syllable type, while the other version does not. This ensures that you will be able to use these materials regardless of whether your phonics instruction includes six or seven syllable types. This activity is great for helping students build fluency with recognizing different syllable types within words. Also included are recording sheets, on which students can document their answers for the sort activity as well as an answer key, which students can use to self-check their work.
(3) Roll-and-Read Game: This product includes details for two ways to use a fun activity to help students build fluency reading words with different syllable types.
(4) Student-made Interactive Syllable Types flip book: This hands-on project provides students with an opportunity to apply what they have learned about syllable types. The book they create may be used as an assessment tool, an independent center activity, an activity for review, or as a reference tool in the future.
You may use this product in it's entirety (for older students), or pick and choose from the materials as you teach the different syllable types in your class (with younger students). It is intended to be both, a flexible tool for ongoing instruction as well as one concise unit if needed.
