Thanksgiving is a wonderful, warm holiday to teach about and celebrate with our little ones. So often, the story that is passed on to our children is one that has some myths and stereotypes involved. This FREE packet gives suggestions and resources for eliminating stereotypes in teaching our littles about the first Thanksgiving, as well as some fun activities associated with being inclusive of our students who don't celebrate Thanksgiving in a traditional way (or at all).
-A list of websites and resources for teachers to gain more insight on common misconceptions about the first Thanksgiving
-A concise list of lessons associated with Thanksgiving and how to amend them to be more culturally responsive
-A fun poem that can be used for Shared Reading and a variety of workstations entitled "Not Everyone Eats Turkey"
-A fun "Sight Word Search" where students match Sight Words to those that are in the shared reading poem
-A drawing and writing activity about what students like to eat with their family at Thanksgiving and beyond.
