As teachers we are often asked to have personal professional development goals each school year, semester, or quarter. This table evolved out of a request of a colleague who wanted to work on strategies to help differentiate and support all learners in her classroom.
I designed this log for teachers to use as part of their professional development. This log was to be used to help teachers increase their repertoire of teaching and learning strategies and give teachers the ability to track their progress and learning quickly and efficiently to share with any necessary stakeholders.
This log works well with developing SMART Goals for professional growth. Example: By April 10, 2016, (timely) I want to try 15 (measureable, attainable) new teaching and learning strategies from the Teaching and Learning Strategies for Diverse Learners Log Sheet in my 5th grade social studies class (specific, relevant).
Teachers use this log to track the learning and teaching strategies they are using in the classroom to promote their own personal growth and the academic and curricular growth of their students.
Teachers choose a strategy on this log and choose when in will be implemented by recording the date it was used or first used.
In the Comments Column teachers can note effectiveness, issues, subject area/lesson strategy was used for, lesson changes to make, or when to try it again. This column can also be used to tally the number of times you use the strategy in a given time period.
Teachers can use this chart competitively for some added fun. Make the goal to see who can use the most strategies in a given time period or who can use all of the strategies first.
Use the blank spaces in the Strategies Column for your own personal strategies you use or discover.
More about these strategies can be learned from the references listed on the References Page.
I also have a blank copy of this log available in my TpT store. It is available here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Teaching-Learning-Strategies-for-Diverse-Learners-Teachers-Log-Blank-Copy-2406132
Additionally, there is a PowerPoint/Google Slides presentation available to explain each of their strategies and possible implementation practices or to use to introduce this professional development practice to your staff or colleagues.
