This study guide introduces students to the format of informational text. It highlights various ways that authors handle vocabulary words and headings. It also walks students through the steps of citing work on reference pages.
This guide requires the teacher to have a number of books on plants, animals, and places. Students will choose one plant, one animal, and one place. The student will gather information about each choice following the study guide. This will help the student understand that every word in an informational book does not have to be read in order to learn material.
This lesson should follow a lesson that introduces the table of contents, glossary, and index.
