The Marshmallow Game Challenge (seeing which group can build the tallest, free-standing structure using only tape, spaghetti, string, and a marshmallow) has become a hit across a variety of settings, from kindergarten classes to Professional Development meetings to business seminars. As a result, I like to do this challenge as a team building activity in my classroom. I created a PowerPoint with the following:
-Overview of the Challenge
-A hyperlink to a 20 minute timer (to time the challenge)
-14 reflection questions (can be answered whole group and/or individually)
***The PowerPoint contains graphics and memes that reflect the topic of the slide to promote student interest and engagement.
This product also includes a word document with a unique way to split students into random groups. There are 20 words that are spit into 5 common groups (so 4 in a group). Students will need to find other students with a common theme among their words. For example, "Thor," "Hulk," "Iron Man," and "Captain America" would all be a group because they all are the Avengers. You can easily alter these words to fit the number of students in your class. If you have 19, simply remove one word from a group before passing out the words.
