One of my favorite classroom management strategies in the tech lab is using non-verbal signals for requesting help.
I’ve provided 2 levels of messages on a few different graphics versions.
Level 1: Yellow
I have a question but I can keep working
Level 2: Red
I am stuck and I can’t keep working
I use a Velcro dot on the corner of the screen (on the plastic part) and one on the back of the laminated card. Students move the card they need (yellow or red) to the Velcro dot to signal to you that they need your help.
As you can imagine, help the ones with the red card first and get to the yellow ones next.
• If you have a color printer, use one of the colored laptop or desktop versions.
• If you have colored paper, use the black and white versions.
• There are 9 cards on each page so just do the math to figure out how many pages you will need to print.
