Word Processing Wizardry, Lesson Two: More Formatting Practice
General Description: This lesson will allow the students to practice and become more comfortable with using the skills from Lesson One (see my other products), which included the alignment buttons, Tab, and highlighting tricks. The computer “BFFs” (“undo” and “redo”) are introduced. Although Lesson One is recommended to be done first, this lesson can stand alone.
The students should have previously learned how to open a document, name it properly, and save it to the right location (a certain folder, desktop, hard drive).
This lesson includes a complete lesson plan with 4 instructional videos (filmed with Microsoft Word, Mac version 14.2.1). The lesson can be given as a whole class-teacher directed lesson using a master/teacher computer projected on a screen or a transparency on an overhead. The teacher would have the students follow along step by step while the teacher is typing the lesson on the computer, or use a transparency on the overhead uncovering each line as the lesson progresses.
This lesson can also be used as “flipped classroom” lessons in which each student works at their own pace through each lesson, viewing the included videos & following the instructions individually with the teacher as extra support and guidance.
Students should have their own computer or laptop with which to work as this lesson does not work with partnering on a computer. It is important when learning specific computer skills that students are in control of their own computer.
This technology lesson is only lesson #2 of the Word Processing Wizardry Unit that is listed in my store, however this lesson includes the step-by-step videos. The focus of the unit is technology use as a tool, not as a toy. Although the lessons are written for use with Microsoft Word, Mac version 14.2.1, they are easily adjusted to work for any word processor of any version, PC or Mac, including online Google Docs. See my other product listings for more of the individual lessons for this unit or to purchase the entire unit.
