Why purchase a vocabulary packet?
Learning scientific vocabulary is essential for any student studying science. Many years ago I noticed that students were sometimes copying down incorrect or incomplete definitions of vocabulary words. I also ran into problems when students weren’t allowed to take the science books home. To make sure that my students understood the key terminology, I created what I call “Glossary Pages.” A Glossary Page has the words and definitions already on them, and students are asked to copy them exactly as they appear on the lines below. No more guessing or making up their own (wrong) definitions!
My middle school science students save all of their Glossary Pages in their science binders, and they make an excellent resource when studying for end-of-year exams. I use the regular matching quizzes for most of my students. I use the hard quizzes for my honors students. I use the easy quizzes for students on IEPs. I printed the Word Wall Words on white cardstock, laminated them, and posted them on a special bulletin board.
