This activity practices the skills of number recognition, place value, addition and representing numbers in different ways. It is absolutely perfect for math centres.
All you need is dice and Teddy Bear Counters (optional) and the recording page of your choice.
In this activity, each coloured Teddy Bear represents a different number. I use Teddy Bear counters similar to those available here http://www.teaching.com.au/product/TEB6011# However, you do not need them to complete the activity as there are images provided.
Simply roll two dice (or the same dice twice) and create a 2 digit number i.e. 1 and 3 become 13. Using the Teddy Bear Counters and the different values, students are to represent the 2 digit number as many ways as they can. Then record their answers.
This activity has been differentiated to cater for a wide range of abilities and needs. The recording pages vary in difficulty.
There are 5 different recording sheets to allow students to:
* Write it or
* Colour it or
* Draw it
I have included a coloured version and black and white version of each recording sheet. Each recording sheet has the values 1, 2, 5 and 10 provided. There is also a blank version of each one so you can provide your own Teddy Bear values. Example answers are also included.
British/English and American spelling are included.
In NSW, this activity is ideal for students who are 'Facile' and are refining their skills. Additionally, its great for students who are 'Counting On and Back' and working towards becoming 'Facile'.
