Here is a simple to play board game to practice blending sounds to read short-vowel CVC words.
The object of the game is to be the first to reach the Teddy Bears’ Picnic at the end of the trail of Teddy bears.
The game is best played with 2 to 4 players.
You will need a dice.
Each player will need a game-piece.
If you wish, you can enlarge the print-out and/or give your students the task of coloring the game board.
The rules are simple:
Each player puts his game-piece on the ‘start’ bear (bottom left of game board).
Players take turns to roll the dice and move the number of spaces indicated, following the trail of bears and reading the words as they go.
If you land on a bear with a butterfly on his ear, take a short cut ‘up’ to the bear above.
If there is a bee on the foot of the bear you land on - (look out for him- he has a sad face!) - you must go back ‘down’ the bee to the bear below.
Don’t forget to read the words!!!.
The first player to reach the Teddy Bears’ Picnic is the winner.
