Teen Number Math Centers: Fishing Theme includes 4 math stations which will help your students to build spatial understanding of teen numbers and operations and to build fluency through repetition.
Bobbing For Numbers- Students use fish to represent teen numbers. Students will form each teen number as a group of ten fish and additional single fish. Students can note their work on the accompanying worksheet. Students will write the number 10 in blue and then mark the additional ones in red on the ten frame provided.
Equal / Not Equal – In this game, students solve two number sentences and determine whether they are equal or not equal. Students sort their responses under the two headings. A recording form has also been included for this activity.
Roll and Add – Students roll two dice orienting the numbers by being sure that the fish are at the bottom. Students record the two numbers in an addition equation and solve with sums to 20. Students can use any addition strategy that they have been taught in class to solve these problems.
Jumping Fish – Students solve the problems on the recording form by representing the problems on the two ten frames. Encourage students to count backwards as they take fish off of to determine their answer. Next, students should look at the amount of fish left to be sure that it matches the number they arrived at when counting backwards.
