Telephone Rhythm Game - a game to practice rhythm reading and memory in the music room for any time of year. Did you play telephone (also known as "Chinese Whispers" in some place) when you were little? One person had a secret message and they would whisper it to someone. The message would be passed from person to person. By the time it got to the last person, everyone would find out if the message remained the same all the way to the end or if it got mixed up somewhere.

This game is played the same way. It can be played with the whole class or in small groups in centers. It is a great game to leave for a sub since it can be student lead. One student or the teacher can be the leader. They may draw one card from the pile (once they get the hang of it, you could try drawing two cards for an 8 beat pattern). The leader whispers the pattern to their neighbor and the game continues with each student aurally passing the pattern down the line or around the circle. When it gets to the last person, they may say the pattern out loud and the class checks it with the card(s) to see if the class succeeded in getting the pattern all the way around the group.

This set includes game instructions as well as cards for each rhythm concept that can be printed, cut in quarters and laminated for long term use. Each card contains a four beat rhythm pattern. Each concept comes with 4 different options for printing - color cell phone, color vintage phone, black and white cell phone, or black and white vintage phone. In the color sets, each concept is a different color to help keep them separated for different grade levels. A rhythm list for each concept is included for teacher use. This game would also be great practice for older beginners using some of the more simple rhythms.

This bundle includes a set for each of the following rhythm concepts (click on the concept to purchase individually):
- ta and titi
- ta rest
- half note
- tiri-tiri
- ti-tiri
- tiri-ti
- syncopa
- tam ti

(Please let me know if you are interested in a set for 6/8 or tim-ri. I'd be happy to make one!)

* This set can be used with any system for reading rhythms. All rhythms are notated using rhythm stick notation.
