Before reading "The Tell Tale Heart," print each of the images in this PowerPoint (7 total pictures) and give one to small groups of students -- at least 3-4 people would work best. Give them 10 minutes to analyze this one image and make predictions about the story prior to looking at the text. After this activity, project each image on the PowerPoint for the entire class to see. Each group will share their prediction and then the remainder of the students can add in their own thoughts of the image. Each picture hints at different conflicts, characters, and/or events in the story, so all of the predictions should be somewhat different. The goal is to look for specific similarities in the pictures and decide as a class what the story will be about as a prereading strategy. The final slide in the PowerPoint has some information to use for introducing the short story after the prediction activity.
