This vocabulary unit focuses on words pulled from Edgar Allan Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart." Each lesson includes regular and pre-AP versions. In the first lesson, students study the denotation and part of speech of each word, illustrate examples and non-examples, and then apply word meaning to their own lives through personal connection sentences. In the second lesson, students work in pairs to evaluate the vocabulary words in context of the story to decipher deeper meaning about the characters. In the third lesson, students group up to play a vocabulary review game modeled after Apples to Apples. Also included in the unit is an assessment with matching definitions and context sentences based on story content.
