This collection of worksheets teaches time in order around the clock.
When I taught first grade, most math books taught time to the hour, then the half hour, then quarter after, quarter ‘til, and then all the other times.
After several years of trouble teaching students who were used to digital clocks, I decided to scrap the “traditional” approach. I made sure everyone could count by fives easily. Then I just taught my way around the clock. By the time we got to twenty after, they had caught on to the idea and could pretty much tell any time.
The only other snag was a time like 8:55 where the short hand was almost on the 9. I pointed out that in five minutes it would be 9:00, but since it wasn’t 9:00 yet, it had to still be 8 something.
These clock worksheets are arranged in the same order. I have tried hard to show the progress of the hour hand as the minutes pass. If you point this out to your students early on, it will make things easier.
