Students new to telling time are asked to
+Write the number, 1 to 12, on the clock face.
+Write 'hour' on the hour hand.
+ Write 'minute' on the minute hand.
*When I've taught this to students, I suggested a way to remember which hand is which. I point out that h-o-u-r has less letters then m-i-n-u-t-e. Thus, hour is a short word so it's the short hand; Minute is a longer word so it's the long hand.
