Need a little review and practice of telling time as summer draws closer? I created 7 different activities that focus on the second grade CCSS standard of telling time to five minute intervals. All of the activities can be done with your whole class – and some can be used as small group reinforcement of centers. Recording sheets, answer keys and direction included for every activity. “SummerTIME” includes:
Summer-TIME Scoot: 2 sets of cards (24 in each set, plus a few “Take a Break” cards), one for writing the digital time, the other for drawing the hands on the clock face
It’s SummerTIME! Students choose 4 summer activities and decide on a time to do each of them. They show the time (including am or pm) and draw and write about their activity.
Find Someone Who Has . . .: Students walk around the room, looking at each person’s clock face to see if it matches one of the times on their paper; practice identifying times using words such as “quarter of,” “ten after,” etc.
Rock-n-Roll SummerTIME: A great assessment or partner game (using dice) to practice drawing the hands on a clock and writing the digital time.
What TIME Is It? A fun whole group (or small group) activity to practice matching times to clock faces, and sequencing times of the day.
Hot Fun in the SummerTIME!: 12 word problems involving elapsed time; can be used as a whole group “Read the Room” activity, or a small group center.
Rolling Through SummerTIME: a quick and easy game (or assessment!) for students to practice showing elapsed time (dice game)
