Racing the Clock: Write the Room
Objective: Students will identify time to the hour, half hour, or hour and half-hour combined. Students will read the time on an analog clock. They will record the time in digital form and draw the hands on the clock to show the analog time.

Materials:
“I Can” Pictorial Directions: Color (pg. 5, 17)
“I Can” Pictorial Directions: Black & White (pg. 6, 18)
Digital Time Cards to the Hour: Color (pg. 7-8)
Digital Time Cards to the Hour: Black & White (pg. 10-11)
Digital Time Cards to the Half-Hour: Color (pg. 8-9)
Digital Time Cards to the Half-Hour: Black & White (pg. 11-12)
Write the Room Recording Sheet to the Hour & Answer Key (pg. 13-14)
Write the Room Recording Sheet to the Half-Hour & Answer Key (pg. 15-16)
Digital Time Cards to the Hour & Half-Hour Combined: Color (pg. 19-21)
Digital Time Cards to the Hour & Half-Hour Combined: Black & White (pg. 22-24)
Write the Room Recording Sheets to the Hour and Half-Hour Combined & Answer Keys (pg. 25-28)
Clipboard for students to use with recording sheets (not included)
Painter’s tape to affix the time cards on the wall (not included)
Procedure:
Print out the time cards to use: to the hour, to the half-hour, or both hour and half-hour.
Laminate the cards for durability.
Affix time cards around the room. Use painter’s tape for easy removal.
Color cards have different backgrounds, so that you can differentiate for your students. Each student will look for the specific type of card, so you can have all students participating at different levels of difficulty.
Give each student a recording sheet.
Students will search the room for the clock card. They will read the letter on the card and find the matching letter on the recording sheet. Time to the hour are lowercase letters a-l. Times to the half-hour are lowercase letters m-x. Times to the hour and half-hour combined are uppercase letters A-X.
Students will identify the time on the analog clock on the card. They will draw the hands on the clock on the recording sheet and write the digital time.
Students will “win” the race, when they find and record all the times around the room.
