I believe that we should initially be teaching students to read digital time before we teach analogue time. The reality is, that these days, very few homes have analogue clocks and very few people wear analogue watches. Gone are the days where children learn to read analogue clocks at home, seeing them constantly in their daily routine. Children now learn to read the time on various types of digital clocks at home, in the car, on their parents 'smart' phones and in public spaces. This pack is dealing with learning to read analogue clocks, but I have assumed that students already know a little about reading time on digital clocks.
I have a 'Telling the Time with Digital Clocks' pack on Tpt as well that shares some of the basics of telling the time, hours in the day, a.m and p.m time, and minutes in the hour.
'Telling the Time with Analogue Clocks' provides an explanation of a.m and p.m time, how to read an analogue clock, the break down of 60 minutes into:on the hour, half hours, quarter hours and three quarter hours, what they mean and the common way to refer to those time brackets.
There are 16 worksheets that enable students to become familiar with analogue time using 'o’clock', 'quarter past', 'half past' and 'quarter to' times. There are 4 different activities for each time frame that allow students to practice converting between digital, analogue and the way time is said in words.
