Students explore how hot and cold objects feel in the classroom. There is a big twist at the end because students think they are measuring temperature with their hands but actually are measuring conduction. This is how I start off my energy unit. This standards starts to cover MS-PS3-3: Apply scientific principles to design, construct, and test a device that either minimizes or maximizes thermal energy transfer.
