Your students will love using these templates at writing time!
There are templates that are formatted for landscape and for portrait journals. There are 6 different templates for each as well as a student cover and a page for making the journals two-sided.
As the year progresses, templates have smaller drawing boxes and more lines for writing. Five writing skills, which we call the High Five
skills, are introduced one at a time:
1. Phonics/Phonemic Awareness - stretching out the word for phonetic spelling
2. Capitalization - using capital letters at the beginning of new sentences, for proper
names, and for proper pronouns such as Mom and Dad.
3. Spacing - using a finger space between the words so that others can read it more
4. Punctuation marks - using periods, question marks, exclamation points, and
quotation marks which we call “talking marks.”
5. Comprehension - re-reading to check if the story makes sense
The children evaluate their own writing and color in the appropriate face to show their assessment on the High Five
chart on their writing page.
