This is a 3-day lesson plan I used just before spring break. It was under my theme "What is holding you back?" There are three bell ringers about disability and what holds high school students back. Students derive facts from the movie and after each Day are writing a paragraph of information about what they've learned rather than just answering comprehension questions about the film. This strategy relates better to common core by promoting critical thinking and synthesis of the information rather than just spitting out facts. If the teacher prefers, after writing the three paragraphs (one each day) they can have the students write an essay using the information they've been given through the life of Temple Grandin. There is also biographical information in the handouts from Wikipedia that gives students some background about Temple's life. Another suggestion after the three day viewing is for students to actually read excerpts from Temple's book - primary source documents!
