During this phonics unit, the students learn the sounds of the short vowels. While teaching the different vowel sounds, include these activities as part of your lesson or during a word work center for Daily 5 or literacy centers. To set up this activity, cut out the images and tape them around your classroom, just like you do for write the room. Then, the students will use their temporary (inventive) spelling to sound out each word. Next, the students will hunt around the room to find the correct way to spell the word and record it in column two. This activity is a great informal or formal assessment to find out which students are hearing the specific short vowel sounds.
This packet includes:
-two pages of images for each vowel
