Ten Digits Challenge is a fun activity in which three given digits are combined to create all ten digits, 0 through 9. For example, for the three digits 1, 2, 3: 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 and (2 x 3) + 1 = 7. For ages 13 and up.
Fluent in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers, square roots, exponents, use of parentheses, and order of operations
Able to create an equation with a set of three numbers – 1, 2, 3: 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 – with a range of answers less than ten
Solving the problems involves trying many combinations of operations and orders of numbers. This activity leads students into playing with numbers and discovering “tricks” and patterns fundamental to mathematics.
