I hope your students enjoy identifying and recognizing shapes and hunting for them around the school environment! I use these shapes by posting them in the circle time area (one shape during each theme). I created them in black and white because when I created my first set in color, my students would respond with the color of the shape instead of the name of the shape. Once your students have mastered the names of shapes, feel free to reprint several sets and have your students color them a solid color and work on having them point to the “orange circle” or the “purple star”, etc.
For the shape hunt, post the shapes outside on the playground (or around the school for older students). Use the last two sheets included in this packet as a checklist. Make a few copies, put them in a page protectors and attach them to clipboards. Separate the students into groups of two or three and give them a clipboard and dry erase marker. (Older students can work independently.) Give them time to walk around the playground and find the shapes and check them off their list. They really seem to enjoy the independence and excitement of going on the hunt!
