Product Description
This activity shows students how important mood is in writing and provides them with ten methods writers use to establish mood. Besides the old standbys, word choice and sensory details, some of the methods are sentence length, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, and repetition. See the preview!

Students then identify the mood of excerpts from Les Miserables (pitiable), A Christmas Carol (elated; delighted), The Tell-Tale Heart (agitated; anxious), and Wuthering Heights (desperate).

After identifying the mood of an excerpt, students are asked to locate the text that conveys that mood and then identify which techniques the writer uses.

Excellent resource, especially for personal narrative essays! Download the preview to see for yourself!
