Tens Math Game: A Tiny Teacher Tip with Molly from Elementary Lesson Plans

Fun little math game: Sometimes we have five minutes between classes or maybe we are lined up and waiting at bus call. Whatever the situation, this is a quick math game that focuses on making ten. I have found that if kids can quickly break down and add up tens, it carries over to their everyday math. If I say "8", I point to someone and they should say "2". If they can't say it quickly then I have stumped them and they are out. If they say the wrong number, they are out. Kids love it when you go fast :-)

With this math game, you can also break down hundreds and thousands. For example, if I said "300", the student would say "700" to total a thousand. If I said "40", the student would say "60" to equal 100.

Have fun!
