My standard students were struggling with The Great Gatsby. As a result I created a PowerPoint for each chapter (for a total of 9 PPTs) containing unfamiliar terms, allusions, and locations in an effort for my students to better comprehend the novel. The slides go in order, so I had the PowerPoint on the entire time we read the novel in class, and I would flip through the slides as we came upon the terms. You could also print off the PowerPoints and give to students as an additional resource if they are reading the novel at home or individually in class. Each PowerPoint contains a variety of terms, including, but not limited to, mini biographies of historical figures, maps of various locations, external links to a song and dance mentioned in a chapter, and visuals of the cars described. I essentially looked for any reference in the novel the students may not fully understand and created a visual to quickly address it, so they would not struggle with 1920's terminology and history.
