M.C. Escher case study, Pattern Block Task Cards, Tessellation information printables and more! No prep - just print! Everything you need to teach a tessellations geometry unit.
Investigating tessellations is a wonderful way to explore patterns and make authentic connections to the world we live in! Inquiring into tessellations is a perfect addition to a geometry unit, and in my experience children absolutely love designing and creating their own tessellating works of art!
I designed this resource to be a one-stop collection of no-prep printables for teachers to use in the teaching of tessellations. When I was planning to teach tessellations, I found that I had to draw from many different sources to find what I needed. For this reason, I have included here my favorite tessellation activities so that you don’t need to spend time searching!
This resource is separated into the following sections:
♦ Introductory activities: Information printables, student activities, types of tessellations.
♦ Pattern block challenge cards: Differentiated pattern block task cards for students to engage in hands-on experimentation with tessellations.
♦ Tessellations in the world around us: Student templates with photographs showing tessellations in our world.
♦ Case Study: M.C. Escher: M.C. Escher information printable with QR Code reflection activities.
♦ Create your own tessellations: Step-by-step instructions for creating slide and flip/rotate tessellations.
♦ Dotted Paper printables
