Whether our students take End of Grade, CASE, MAP, mClass, or other assessments, their ability to thoroughly comprehend academic common core vocabulary is a significant factor in how well they perform on these tests. I have found that my students had such difficulty understanding the testing vocabulary in the questions. They know the skills, but just one unknown word in a question can confuse them. I created this resource to help them in this area.
Depending on your students needs, this resource will also give them many opportunities to learn, review and/or practice academic common core vocabulary. It gives repeated exposure to multiple academic vocabulary. I’ve even used it to build understanding of a concept before teaching the reading skill. It helped my students get the concept and thereby more readily understand the skill.
You will find this resource highly engaging and interactive for your students. It is no prep and thus very easy to implement for as little as 10 minutes a day. Simply copy the recording sheet (if you want students to record their answers) and project the pictures and the questions that contain the academic vocabulary words. That’s it! You’re good to go. There are many flexible options for using this resource. So far there are 65 pages that contain 15 common core academic vocabulary words with 48 opportunities to practice them. My students look forward to our 10 to 15 minutes of learning with this resource.
