Assess your student’s or child’s ability to identify fourths and eighths, using fraction models with this quick two-question exit slip.
ON GRADE LEVEL: Grades 2-3
ENRICHMENT: Grades K-1
RETEACH: Grades 4-5
2.G.1.3 ~ Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc. and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
3.NF.1.1 ~ Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b.
The student or child can identify fourths and eighths, using fraction models.

Exit Slip (make the copies you need)
Student Work Space Sheet
Student Evidence of Learning/Verification ~ Check your student’s or child’s understanding by the performance on the exit slip.
1.Teach or show your child how to identify fourths and eighths, using fraction models.
e.g., What is the correct label? (How many parts of the total are shaded?)
2. Have your student or child complete the exit slip.
3. Assess how well he or she did using the answer key (provided).
Common Error: If there are any missed questions your student or child may be confusing fourths and eighths.
Reteach: Ask them how many total parts they see in the entire fraction strip, then ask him or her how many of those parts are shaded. Allow them to try it again and use the student work space to explain their thinking.
