2 Lessons includes Fab 5 Test-taking Strategies with catchy names that help students remember them and Road Signs for Reading Response which provides students with exposure and practice to common question and direction wording from standardized ELA tests.
Both lessons are provided in both PPT and SMART notebook formats for your convenience.
Wording of questions on standardized tests tends to pose its own unique challenge for students. ROAD SIGNS for READING gives students practice reading many common phrases often found in these tests. In addition, key concepts of the Common Core Curriculum include drawing evidence from texts to support responses, referring to explicitly-stated information from texts, and making logical inferences from texts. It is essential for students to return to the text to identify evidence, and ROAD SIGNS reinforces this message that is often given (but ignored) in the question directions. Also included is a brief activity in which students create personal ROAD SIGNS and receive additional practice in reading these common test-question phrases that direct them to look for evidence in the text.
