Do your students struggle with determining what type they should be doing for different writing tasks? Mine, too! One of the biggest struggles for my kiddos on state tests is trying to understand what type of writing they should be doing. Stories, essays, constructed response? Oh my!
What's included in this resource?
-Writing task cards
-Two types of recording sheets
How will my students use this resource?
Your kiddos will be given a writing task and they will have to determine what type of writing they should do. I have my students circle the verbs and underline important information in order to analyze the prompt. This at least makes them close-read the prompt before they start to write. Then, we would discuss what type of planning we should do in order to complete the task.
Does this just have to be used as a whole group activity?
No! You could definitely use this in small group or use one of the cards as a exit ticket.
